Introduction: About me
Hello, my name is Alex La Vecchia, I'm a first-year student here at UBC currently in arts. I was born and raised in Ottawa Canada. I'm a massive sports guy and I'm on the UBC football team, I have also played hockey my entire life.
I come from a big Italian family with all four of my grandparents being born in Italy and immigrating to Canada between the 1960s-1970s. Growing up in my Italian family has shaped my identity and values. Along with the great homecooked meals and large holiday gatherings, my family has made me into the man I am today.
Growing up a hockey player in my family with my two younger also hockey players was cool. We were always competing and we brought out the best in each other. We are huge Ottawa Senators fans- even though they are terrible, we are loyal. Around 2 years ago I switched to a football player and it was the greatest decision of my life and is the reason I am here today. I'm a New Orleans Saints fan and a Drew Brees idolizer. Brees is a model of how to play the game of football as a quarterback and how to be a leader. He also did so much for the city of New Orleans especially when they were battling the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
I'm a big music and film guy. Back home I Dj as a hobby with some friends. We play at parties and some bars, but the best times are spinning tracks with my boys in a garage and vibing to the music. I'm also a big fan of movies. I love diving into the experience of movies especially in theatres. I typically enjoy comedies, thrillers, horrors, and romantic comedies.
This semester is going to be different than my last as I'm in the offseason and will have some more time to focus on school. I'm excited about this romantic studies course as I enjoy writing. Although I originally thought this class would be more about romance, I am kind of disappointed that it isn't as I'm a big Rom-com fan. I'm not a big reader so I'm looking forward to growing that skill throughout this class.
This is my first blog post, and I can't wait to create more during the course to express my thoughts and engage in discussion about the readings. I'm excited to meet everyone and take this class.
Question of the week: What do you expect this romantic studies to be like before the first lecture?
Alex, although this is Romance Studies, don't rule out some romantic encounters in the readings in this course!
ReplyDeleteHi, Alex. Nice to meet you! I think it's cool to play hockey for your entire life, I think it's a difficult sport and should pay a lot of effort. I also noticed you like watching films and listening to music, I also have the same hobbies. I like to listen to some slow music and watch some comedy films.
ReplyDeleteI find it really cool that you DJ as a hobby. It would be a vibe with the boys in the garage and listen to music
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, I completely agree with experiencing movies and films in theatres since it just brings the emersion of the movie to the next level.
